In the beginning…

Cats in the City began in 2007. Founders Shawn and Dan Lioy-Ryan wanted to serve the unmet needs of feline family members in the Portland, Oregon, area. Shawn, a social worker specializing in hospice, had been using domestic cats for animal-assisted therapy. His husband, Dan, is a neuroscientist who is also studying animal behavior.

What began as a dedicated grooming and boarding enterprise has grown as a result of their clients’ needs—both human and feline. We added a second cat resort in 2015, a renovated 1906 residence, complete with furnished guest rooms for the cats, and a room with a custom-built aquarium.

Pets on the move

Cats in the City has been transporting their clientele to and from veterinary appointments, the airport, and other destinations, as needed. Our clients value the level of care we give to each cat, and they have entrusted us with long-distance travel planning and escort.

We decided to expand with Go Pet Go, pet relocation and transportation service, because these treasured family members can experience a great deal of trauma when a trip isn’t handled expertly.

We are available 24/7, 365 days a year.

Our Mission

Go Pet Go’s mission is to give your pet the love and attention that it deserves, to eliminate the fear that comes with separation from you—no matter how short or long the time and distance.

We treat every pet like one of our own, because, while they are in our care, that’s exactly how we see them. Every animal is unique to us, and we take the time to understand their individual behavior and needs
